A seasoned real estate professional with more than 31 years’ experience in the industry, Cathy Thompson is a co-founder and principal at Thompson Hennessey and Partners. An accomplished tenant and owner representative, Ms. Thompson delivers corporate services solutions to long-term, high-profile clients, skillfully coordinating complex global transactions and leveraging astute economic analysis to achieve the best results and add the greatest value for her clients. Cathy is responsible for over 2.5M square feet of lease transactions in her career. High profile clients include U.S. Trust, ITG, Sapient Corporation, McKinsey & Co. and Boston Beer Company. In addition to her global transactional work, Cathy is active in the Boston market.
Cathy originally co-founded Thompson Hennessey & Partners in 1990, and was the Managing Partner for 21 years. In 2011, the company was sold to Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, where she was an Executive Director. Most recently, Cathy was the Co-Managing Director at DTZ in Boston, until re-opening Thompson Hennessey & Partners in 2015.
Cathy’s elementary education spanned many Central and South American countries as well as Australia. She is a graduate of Wellesley College, and later the MIT Birthing of Giants Program for entrepreneurs.
Cathy and her husband live in South Boston and have five children. In her spare time, Ms. Thompson enjoys riding Harleys.
During his 30-year career, John Hennessey has provided his clients with diverse and market-leading services, completing more than $6 billion in sale and lease transactions. John is a co-founder and principal at Thompson Hennessey & Partners, where he focuses on advising and providing strategic solutions for his clients, both locally within the Boston market and globally. A true tenant advisor, John excels at building long-lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships with his clients. While working with existing clients and developing meaningful relationships with new and prospective clients, John ensures the delivery of end-to-end real estate services.
John was previously at DTZ where he was the co-managing director and at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank where he was the managing principal for the Boston and Cambridge operations. Over the course of his career, John has conducted more than 800 real estate transactions many of which have been some of Boston’s largest and most notable.
John is an active member of the community and serves as a board member for The Home For Little Wanderers, a nationally renowned, private, non-profit child and family services agency. He also serves on the board for The Boy Scouts of America.
John received his Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University, completing his cooperative education at GTE and R.M. Bradley – a market-leader in Boston’s commercial real estate industry. John ultimately was recruited to work for R.M. Bradley upon graduation, and worked on the Prudential Insurance account for many years.
John lives in Newton with his wife and two sons. John enjoys golf, skiing and is an accomplished pilot. He has competed in and completed five marathons, two of which were The Boston Marathon.
A real estate professional with over 21 years of experience, Chris McMahon is a co-founder and principal at Thompson Hennessey & Partners. Chris’ career in commercial real estate began as a Certified Real Estate Appraiser, licensed in Massachusetts. Subsequently he put that experience to work advising both landlords and occupiers of commercial properties. He has consistently employed his knowledge of financial considerations and strong negotiating skills, uncovering opportunities on behalf of his clients. That depth of experience makes him a true asset to Thompson Hennessey & Partners’ occupier clients in the region and globally.
At Thompson Hennessey & Partners, Chris and his team represent the interests of both buyers (REITs, institutions, schools, family trusts, etc.) and tenants (leasing and owner-occupant), alike. Owners appreciate his knowledge of the capital markets, operational challenges of assets, and proactive analysis to maximize value for the future. Tenants look to Chris for occupancy cost analyses, proactive counselling on all aspects of lease terms and conditions, and market insight where he can truly act as their fiduciary. In all cases, Chris helps his clients mate their business plans to a real estate plan.
Most recently, Chris served as a vice president at DTZ, and was previously at GVA Thompson Hennessey & Partners and then at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank when the firms merged. As Senior Managing Director and in this leadership role, Chris oversaw the delivery of real estate services to non-profit organizations and institutions, clients that have unique space needs and requirements.
Chris, a Syracuse University graduate, lives in Medfield, Massachusetts with his family and dog Cocoa. He is involved in the community through coaching youth sports, frequenting town meetings and is a photographic contributor to the local newspaper. An avid fan of racing, Chris has travelled the globe following his passion for sports cars and Formula 1.
Rick Robinson has been with the Thompson Hennessey & Partners team for more than a decade, becoming a co-founder and principal in 2015. Rick’s core focus is on the suburban office market. He works closely with companies in evaluating their real estate needs and providing cost-effective solutions.
Rick has been active in the suburban office market for more than 14 years. Prior to joining Thompson Hennessey & Partners, Rick served as vice president at DTZ and as senior managing director at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.
Rick is a graduate of Boston College and is a licensed real estate broker in Massachusetts.
Rick resides in Milton with his wife and three children. In his free time, he enjoys golf, skiing, and coaching youth hockey and soccer.
